North Pacific Wildlife Consulting participated in the Marine
Mammals of the Holarctic II conference held at the Irkutsk
Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Listvyanka,
Lake Baikal , Russia on 11-13 September 2002. The conference
was organized by the Russian Marine Mammal Council with assistance
of the Interdepartmental Ichthyological Commission, Russian Ministry
of Industry, Science and Technologies, Shirshov Institute of
Oceanography Russian Academy of Sciences, and the All-Russian
Research Institute for Nature Protection. Our role in this conference
was to coordinate funding contributions from US sponsors. NPWC
contributed funds as a sponsor and coordinated contributions
from Alaska SeaLife Center, National Marine Fishery Service,
North Pacific Fishery Management Council, the US Marine Mammal
Commission, and the US Fish and Wildlife Service. In addition
to spoken presentations made at the conference by Dr. Burkanov
and Dr. Burdin, all three NPWC members, Dr. Burdin, Dr. Burkanov
and Mr. Calkins attend the joint meeting of Marine Mammal Working
Group Steering Committee under the US/Russia Environmental Agreement,
Section 02.05-61, representing their respective nations and organizations. |
